Kali Sara – Roma Information Center is publishing the document “Truth to Justice, 30 Years of Silence – Report on the Suffering of Roma in the Podrinje Region and Northern Bosnia, 1992–1995”, developed within the framework of the project “Enhancing Roma Participation in Transitional Justice in Bosnia and Herzegovina”, funded by the Government of the United Kingdom. This report builds upon Kali Sara’s previous research on the suffering of Roma in the Podrinje region. Together, the two reports constitute a comprehensive body of research aimed at documenting war crimes committed against Roma and contributing to transitional justice processes in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
This is the first comprehensive study to systematically document and map the suffering of Roma during the 1992–1995 war in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The research included more than 160 interviews with survivors, family members of victims, and eyewitnesses, as well as an extensive analysis of court judgments, institutional records, and other relevant sources. The study mapped 26 cities and municipalities and more than 50 micro-locations across the Podrinje region, northeastern Bosnia, Posavina, and Krajina, creating—for the first time—a comprehensive documentary record of the suffering of Roma in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
